Slaven Bilic comments on Leeds fans after West Brom defeat

Slaven Bilic has suggested, , that the Elland Road crowd is one of the most aggressive he has come across following Leeds United’s win against West Brom on Tuesday.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have gone back to the top of the Championship thanks to a 1-0 victory. Gjanni Alioski’s drilled effort across the six-yard box was turned in by Baggies defender Kyle Bartley.

There may have only been one goal, but it was an enthralling contest. Leeds were on top in the first-half, but West Brom fought back after the break. The visitors were definitely the better side in the second-half, and that created an incredibly tense atmosphere inside Elland Road.

Leeds saw the game out. And the change in the atmosphere arguably highlighted how important a win it looks to be for the Whites. They not only needed a result after dropping five points in their last two games, but the clean sheet was also an important statement.

Leeds threw away leads against Nottingham Forest and Derby County at home this season. Meanwhile, West Brom have scored in every game they have played. And with the Baggies improving as the clash went on, the stage looked to be set for Bilic’s men to snatch a point.

And after the game, Bilic seemed to suggest that the crowd played their part in getting Bielsa’s men across the line.

“They are a good crowd, they are a very aggressive crowd,” he said, . “I would say one of the most aggressive I’ve played. They put pressure on the referee.

“It’s Leeds, you know. This is Elland Road. It’s very well known for that, so it’s not easy to not come under that influence. It affects you a bit, Sometimes it’s the last ten minutes, sometimes it lasts until half-time.”
