Sky Sports pundit says what one Celtic player did this month will ‘live long in the memory’
The interview given by Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie after Scotland qualified for the Euros will “live long in the memory”, according to Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker.
The 25-year-old, who was named in Steve Clarke’s starting XI for the crunch playoff against Serbia in Belgrade last week, opened the scoring for his nation.
In the 52nd minute, Christie collected a pass from Callum McGregor, carved out some space for himself on the edge of the box, and fired a low effort into the net off the keeper’s left-hand post.
As well as getting the breakthrough, the Bhoys midfielder weighed in with several more shots, contributed numerous crosses for his teammates, and covered pretty much every blade of grass.
Indeed, his 86th-minute substitution did not go down very well amongst many fans, and things took a turn for the worse as Luka Jovic equalised in the 90th minute.
It all worked out well in the end as the game went to penalties and Scotland triumphed in the shootout, former Celtic keeper David Marshall keeping out Aleksandar Mitrovic’s spot kick.
And after the game, Christie gave an incredibly emotional interview which showed just how much qualification meant to him, his teammates and the entire nation.

“I must admit I haven’t seen a better interview than the one conducted by Sky Sports’ Luke Shanley when he spoke to Christie after the game,” Walker told .
“It will live long in the memory for sheer, raw emotion and for summing up what it means to be successful in a Scotland shirt.”

22 years (23 by the time the Euros take place) is a long time to wait for qualification to a major international tournament, but the wait is finally over for Scotland.
You could see how much it meant to Christie to finally end that long, agonising wait filled with near-misses and outright horror shows along the way.
