Sky Sports pundit names Leeds fan action he hopes ‘doesn’t come back to bite them’

David Prutton has given his verdict on Leeds United fans jokingly chanting about “falling apart again” at the weekend amid their upturn in form and hoped it wouldn’t “come back to bite them on the backside” ().

The Whites of Marcelo Bielsa put Hull City to the sword on Saturday and remain five points clear of third-placed Fulham in the Championship table – as well as just one point behind leaders West Bromwich Albion.

It didn’t take long for Leeds to break the deadlock against Hull as Luke Ayling weighed in with a long-range effort which cannoned off Callum Elder en route to the back of the net in the fifth minute.

Pablo Hernandez then doubled the Whites’ advantage just two minutes into the second half, and Tyler Roberts made sure of all three points with his side’s third and fourth late on, Leeds not taking their foot off the gas throughout the entirety of the game.

Leeds have now won their last four league games in a row, all with clean sheets, and during the 4-0 hammering of Hull, the Elland Road fanbase took to sarcastically chanting something which opposition fans have previously been all too eager to aim their way.

“You hope from their point of view that gallows humour, it stays and it doesn’t come back to bite them on the backside at any time,” Prutton told the .

“It’s got the feel of (Leeds against Fulham later on this month being pivotal). It’s tough, isn’t it because they are a confident lot. They can be at times, which you have got to absolutely admire and respect them for. You would hope this is confirmation that blip is well and truly behind them. But they have got to be very, very wary.

“You talk about gallows humour and it’s there for a reason. Being a Leeds United fan, the general gist you get is that it can be extremely exhilarating, but it can be chronically frustrating as well. They are in a very good position now that gap between second and third, and if they manage to maintain their current course and take those points off Fulham, then it would look very promising indeed.”

Given how much of a rollercoaster ride Leeds fans have had this season, not to mention the season before and pretty much the last 16 years, it’s understandable that some have developed a “gallows humour”.

Obviously there is still quite a way to go this season, with some especially big matches coming up which will have a big bearing on the promotion race.

For the time being, the momentum is with Leeds, and their fans are simply enjoying having gone back to winning ways, while also poking fun at rivals who are all too eager to see them “falling apart”.
