Sky Sports pundit claims ‘fantastic’ player is certain to be signed by Newcastle this week

Newcastle United are running out of time to make additions to Eddie Howe’s squad this summer.

The clock is ticking. Newcastle United have underwhelmed in the transfer window so far but they are looking to get some late business over the line to bring the feel-good factor back to St James’ Park.

On paper, the Toon got off to a winning start in their Premier League but their 1-0 win over Southampton last week left much to be desired.

Alan Shearer described the performance as “leggy” and “flat”, and there hasn’t been much for fans to celebrate over the summer either.

Deals for Lewis Hall, Odysseas Vlachodimos and William Osula have not given fans much to shout about, but Newcastle are now pushing to get a big-money deal over the line for Marc Guehi.

Newcastle have had four bids rejected for Guehi, including one package worth a club-record £65million, but they are continuing to push to sign the Crystal Palace star.

Clinton Morrison on Marc Guehi to Newcastle United

Newcastle are crying out for a marquee signing as deadline day edges closer, and Guehi ticks all their boxes.

Defensive reinforcement is needed desperately and Guehi would immediately improve Howe’s back line.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Clinton Morrison is extremely confident that Newcastle will make the deal happen.

“He will be at Newcastle next week, 100%,” Morrison said.

“Marc Guehi will be a Newcastle player next week. I think it will happen. It will definitely happen. That’s my opinion, 100% it will happen. They’re not miles apart.

“That’s Eddie Howe’s number one target, he didn’t have anyone else in mind. He said to his board, ‘go and get Marc Guehi’. He’s got two years left at Palace. To try and get something like £70m for Marc Guehi, I think he’d be fantastic.”

Newcastle United running out of time

Newcastle have headed into the new season with a strong squad, and without European football to wrestle, the demand on players will decrease compared to last campaign.

But there are still two areas that desperately need reinforcing – centre-back and right wing.

Newcastle are working on a deal for a right-winger and Guehi is their top-choice centre-back target, but they are running out of time to get deals over the line before the transfer window slams shut.
