Sky Sports journalist shares Arsenal’s top target going into deadline day

Arsenal could potentially carry out some late business in the transfer window as they look to apply the finishing touches to their squad.

The Gunners have made two new senior signings, with Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino both arriving at the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Arsenal have also been proactive in terms of moving fringe players on, with the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga all leaving.

A number of players continue to be linked with the Gunners ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline, including Joan Garcia and Raheem Sterling.

Now, with just over 24 hours until the window shuts, Dharmesh Sheth has shared which player Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has at the top of his list.

Nico Williams top of Arsenal wish-list

Sheth, speaking on the latest episode of , said Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams is top of Arsenal’s wish-list.

However, the Sky Sports News reporter poured cold water on a prospective late deal, saying the finances involved make it a difficult deal for the Gunners.

Nico Williams wage demands could be sticking point

Williams is said to have a release clause of around £50million, which isn’t prohibitively expensive for a club like Arsenal, but his salary is around £170,000-a-week, according to .

It has previously been reported that a wage offer of £300,000-a-week would be needed to convince the “world-class” star to make the move.

In addition, Arsenal have been cautious in balancing their big summer incomings with player sales, and with PSR in the background, they’ll want to keep this up.

Furthermore, Williams is said to be happy at Bilbao, and Arsenal are fairly well stocked in attack as things stand, so a new recruit in that position isn’t the highest of priorities.

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will indeed make any late moves on deadline day.
