Sky Sports journalist has heard something very different about Mikel Merino and Arsenal from ‘one source’

Mikel Merino looks like he could be Arsenal’s next signing this summer as the Gunners look to improve their squad.

Merino is reportedly close to joining Arsenal, but, as ever, there are some conflicting reports emerging around this story.

Indeed, while Fabrizio Romano has claimed that a deal to sign Merino is close, Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has heard something different.

According to Sheth, speaking on Sky Sports News, one source has told him that the Merino deal isn’t as advanced as some would suggest, claiming that everything now needs to be calmed down on this front.

What Dharmesh Sheth has heard about Mikel Merino

Sheth shared what one source has told him about the Real Sociedad midfielder.

“It looks like this one is accelerating, although I’ve been told by one source that it’s only talks at the moment, let’s just calm it all down. It does seem to be developing this one,” Sheth said.

Mikel Merino deal hasn’t been straightforward

This is yet another twist in this Mikel Merino story.

Merino reportedly agreed personal terms with Arsenal last month, but since then, there’s been such little progress on this deal.

A fee is yet to be agreed, and while Merino was left out of Real Sociedad’s squad at the weekend, he’s yet to travel to the UK to finalise terms.

Of course, given how much noise there has been around this story, this is certainly more than just preliminary talks, but if sources are still playing down this deal, it may not be as close as some suggest.

We’re getting to the point of the transfer window where headlines are dominated by leaks and counter-leaks, and you have to take every single story with more than a pinch of salt.

It remains to be seen whether or not Merino will join Arsenal before the end of this summer.
