Sky reporter shares details of Rangers talks with Gio van Bronckhorst over weekend

that Rangers held talks with Gio van Bronckhorst and two other managers over the vacant Ibrox role during the weekend.

Van Bronckhorst, 46, is clearly the front runner to take over from Steven Gerrard at Rangers. Gerrard joined Aston Villa last week, until June 2025.

It appears that 2010 World Cup finalist van Bronckhorst held talks with Rangers over the weekend. He is not the only name in the hat, though.

Sheth reports that he and two others were interviewed over the weekend. The talks are said to be around club values and vision – not contract terms.

But Sheth does report that van Bronckhorst’s vision and the club’s ideas matched. It is believed Rangers are looking to make an appointment soon.

Sheth update: Rangers have simply got to choose van Bronckhorst

It feels right. Van Bronckhorst is a brilliant option – for numerous reasons. His style, firstly, fits into the attacking blueprint Gerrard imprinted.

It means van Bronckhorst can continue where Gerrard left off, rather than making major changes. He is of course, a bit of an icon at Rangers too.

He played 117 times across three years – winning five trophies including two titles. That winning mentality has seen him shine as a manager.

Van Bronckhorst has also sparkled in the dugout, winning five trophies in four seasons at Feyenoord – including the 2016-17 Eredivisie title.

Everything Rangers will be looking for in a manager is van Bronckhorst. It makes utter sense to bring the Dutchman back to the club.
