Sky pundit so impressed by what £17m Spurs player did in first-half vs Fulham
Alan Smith lauded Guglielmo Vicario after the outstanding save the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper made to deny Joao Palhinha during the first-half of Spurs’ win over Fulham on Monday.
Smith was speaking on (broadcast on 23/10; 20:13) after the Italian got a strong left-hand to the midfielder’s header to deny the visitors the opening goal.
Guglielmo Vicario has been a revelation at the start of the new Premier League season. He would not have been a household name before his switch in the summer. But he has done brilliantly.

He has taken no time to settle into the new-look Tottenham team. Certainly, he looks a lot more assured than another goalkeeper signing made by a North London club over the summer.
Guglielmo Vicario lauded after early save in Tottenham win
And he came to Tottenham’s rescue in the early stages of Monday’s clash with Fulham. Joao Palhinha managed to produce a strong header from the penalty spot which looked destined for the bottom corner.

Vicario however, managed to somehow paw the ball away from trouble. It was the kind of save which led to quite the gasp across the stadium. Certainly, Smith was full of praise for the goalkeeper.
“That looked absolutely superb. Palhinha must think he’s scored here. Full stretch, Vicario. He might have seen it a little bit later than some other players,” he told .
Goalkeeper pushing James Maddison for being Spurs’ signing of the summer
Vicario is getting plenty of credit. And yet, it still feels like his performances are still going under the radar.
It is understandable. The likes of James Maddison and Son Heung-min have been absolutely outstanding, and stealing many of the headlines.
Spurs needed a world-class goalkeeper with the style of play they have adopted. And remarkably, they seem to have found one for just over .
A lot of sides will be kicking themselves over not signing Vicario before his move. He looks to be a special player. Even when he made an error with his passing last night, he did not let it phase him.
James Maddison was perhaps the signing of the summer. But it says everything that Vicario is running him close.
