Sky pundit hails £70k-a-week Spurs player who ‘gave the crowd a lift’ v Palace
Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson received praise from Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison following his heroics against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Spurs ace came off the bench to help Ange Postecoglou’s charges come from behind to win 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham fell behind in the 59th minute as Eberechi Eze curled home a superb free kick, and for a while it looked as though another defeat was looming.
However, Johnson – who came on just after the hour – provided a lot of energy and tenacity, which came to the fore when he helped Spurs find the equaliser.
The ace found himself up against Joachim Andersen, who seemingly had control of the ball far in Palace territory. He battled hard, won the ball and got past him.

Johnson duly whipped the ball across the face of goal for Timo Werner to slam home for his first Spurs goal and a much-needed equaliser on the day.

Tottenham then turned things around by taking the lead just three minutes later, Cristian Romero heading home from James Maddison’s cross.
And late on, another tenacious bit of play from Johnson saw him work the ball to Son Heung-min, who was able to race away and fire home from just inside the D.
“Postecoglou brought on Johnson and he made a big impact,” Morrison said on Soccer Saturday, as per the .
“Andersen made a mistake trying to play out from the back and Lerma should have made a tackle but missed it, which allowed Johnson to play it across goal for a tap-in for Werner.
“That gave the crowd a lift and that’s what Palace and Oliver Glasner didn’t want to do.
Johnson is now fully up and running after needing a little time to properly acclimatise to life at Tottenham, something which is par for the course for most players after a move.
At just 22 years of age, it’ll be exciting to see how Johnson continues to develop at Spurs.
