Sky journalist names world-class, in-demand player ‘attracted by prospect’ of Tottenham Hotspur and Jose Mourinho
Tottenham Hotspur stand a great chance of signing Thomas Meunier this summer with the Paris Saint-Germain man “attracted by the prospect of playing in London for Jose Mourinho”, according to journalist Kaveh Solhekol.
Meunier and Spurs have been linked for some time – according to a recent report by , Mourinho has told Meunier that he wants him at Spurs next season, which apparently went “very close” to convincing the Belgian to make the move.
The 28-year-old right-back joined Paris Saint-Germain from Club Brugge for a (£6.3million) fee in 2016 and has made 128 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants, claiming 13 goals and 21 assists ().

However, Meunier has started just 14 games in the French top flight this term and, with no breakthrough in contract talks, he appears set to seek pastures new on a free transfer.
Solhekol wrote on : “Spurs need another right back and Thomas Meunier would be a great addition to their squad. He is out of contract at PSG at the end of June and he will be one of the most sought-after players during the summer.
“The only problem for Spurs is lots of other clubs want the Belgium international. Having said that, Meunier is attracted by the prospect of playing in London for Jose Mourinho and if he’s offered the right terms, we could well see him playing for Spurs next season.
“Signing Meunier would make sense for Spurs. There’s no transfer fee, he’s 28 and he plays for regularly for Belgium – the No. 1 ranked national team in the world.”
The 6ft 3in ace won the Belgian Pro League with Brugge in 2016 before finishing top of the table with PSG in 2018, 2019 and 2020, as well as helping Belgium finish third in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
TBR View:
Meunier is a high-calibre player with plenty of experience at the highest level and, as well as being great in defence, is also a constant threat up the flank and in the final third – making him a great option for Tottenham.
Solhekol’s latest comments suggest an even higher possibility of a 40-cap international for a world-class team who was valued at £26million just last summer () could soon arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for absolutely nothing.
