Six months for Kieran Dowell to prove himself the talent Everton fans hoped he would be
Kieran Dowell is embarking on his fourth loan spell away from Everton after leaving Derby County to join Wigan Athletic earlier this month.
It comes after Dowell fell out of favour with Philipp Cocu as his performances failed to live up to previous ones during spells at Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United.
Speaking to the press this week, Cocu explained just why he decided to let Dowell leave and pursue a new loan direction.
“I don’t want to say he failed, but you always want to see with a young guy who comes on loan what is the second part of the season going to give him.
“I wanted to be honest with him because I don’t want to interfere with his career.”
It certainly seems as though Dowell never managed to win over the Dutchman. But does this hint that Dowell may never make the breakthrough at Everton every fan once hoped?

Dowell was a star in the David Unsworth’s under-21s over the years and helped England to the under-20 World Cup in 2017.
He was expected to become a future Everton first-team player but he never truly took his chance when given to him.
Now, the attacking midfielder is 22-years-old and has flopped at Derby, so the chances of him becoming an Everton first-team player look slimmer than ever.
With just 18 months left on his contract, the next six months could be pivotal toward Dowell probing himself a first-team option to new Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti.
