Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly pushing transfer pursuit of Aston Villa star

that Sir Alex Ferguson is the man behind Manchester United’s apparent interest in Scotland international John McGinn.

The report builds on a which suggested the Red Devils saw McGinn as a potential midfield recruit this summer. The report also claimed Aston Villa had placed a £50 million price-tag on their talismanic star.

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be ‘close friends’ with the Aston Villa star’s grandfather. Jack McGinn was Celtic’s chairman between 1986 and 1991 and is also a former president of the Scottish Football Association.

Aston Villa fans will no doubt react to the report with the same skepticism as they did the first time around.

It is certainly interesting timing for the report. Aston Villa defeated Charlton Athletic in a pre-season friendly yesterday. McGinn scored a world-class goal in the game, which certainly would not have looked out of place at Old Trafford.

Aston Villa signed McGinn from Hibernian last summer and would seemingly be remiss to losing the Scotland international this summer.

It will no doubt remain to be seen if Sir Alex can convince the current Old Trafford hierarchy to make a move for his pal’s grandson.
