Simon Mignolet loving life away from Liverpool after summer switch

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has told of his delight at playing regular first-team football once again.

The ex-Reds performer departed Anfield last summer to end a six-year association with the Merseyside-based club.

The 31-year-old made 204 appearances for Liverpool, keeping 66 clean sheets but departed for Club Brugge in the summer.

He fell down the pecking order behind Alisson Becker last season playing just two games in domestic cup competitions.

This season he has made a solid start to like at Club Brugge, featuring in 36 games in all competitions.

Mignolet has told the Belgian media that he couldn’t be happier with how things are going.

“We play a lot of competitions with Club Brugge. I came back for that. I am the happiest person in all of Belgium.

“Now after 18 months on Liverpool’s bench, I can show once again what I am worth at a time when I am at the peak of my career.

“I won the Champions League with Liverpool which is a nice memory. I did not play in that campaign but I felt I was part of the group.”

Mignolet lost his place in the Liverpool team midway through the 2017/18 campaign when Jurgen Klopp opted to prefer Loris Karius.

Given Alisson’s form last season he opted to leave in the summer, joining the Belgian giants for £6 million

Mignolet was steady during his time at Liverpool but it’s fair to say they have moved on.

Alisson won several accolades for his goalkeeping last season, whilst Adrian has also proved a capable understudy during the current campaign.

The man with 23 Belgium caps must look back with some envy.

Liverpool are romping towards their first Premier League title and had he stuck around he could have played a part in that.
