‘Similar’: Ballon d’Or winner thinks Newcastle and Tottenham-linked defender is just like Sergio Ramos

revealed earlier this week that Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are among other sides interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter in January.
The German international will enter the final six months of his contract soon and there’s a big chance that he’ll leave as a free agent at the end of this season. Spurs, Newcastle and a few other teams want to bring him in, but they’ll have to fight off two top European clubs.
The report claims that along with Tottenham and the Magpies, Champions League holders Chelsea and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have also expressed an interest in signing him.
Ginter really is spoilt for choices at the moment and he will be a wanted man when his contract runs out at the end of this season.
Lothar Matthaus on Tottenham and Newcastle-linked Ginter: He reminds me of Sergio Ramos
German football icon Lothar Matthaus, who won the Ballon d’Or in 1990, knows a good player when he sees one. The World Cup winner is a big fan of Ginter and has even compared him to Sergio Ramos.
Here’s what Matthaus once said, as per : “Ginter has become a leader at the back, in a similar way to Ramos at Real.
“He doesn’t just give instructions to his teammates, but leads them as well. That’s what Ginter is doing really well at the moment.
“He reminds me of Ramos.”

TBR View:
Ginter, at 27, is at the prime of his career. It’s a real shame for Monchengladbach that they’re losing a player of his quality for absolutely nothing, but their loss could well be Tottenham or Newcastle’s gain.
Both English clubs are in need of a new centre-half. Ginter, likened to arguably the best defender over the last decade in Sergio Ramos, could come in and hit the ground running in the Premier League. But, if he stays at Gladbach till the summer like he wants to, plenty of other clubs will come in for him.
That could complicate things for Spurs and Newcastle, who should consider making a move next month. January is the last chance for Gladbach to make some money off his sale, which could make Ginter available for a bargain fee.
It will be interesting to see if either club will try to sign the German next month. If Matthaus’ words are anything to go by, he’d be an unbelievable signing.
