Silva must move Holgate to right back following Kenny’s West Ham shocker

Everton manager Marco Silva should seriously consider moving Mason Holgate back to right back, after Jonjoe Kenny endured a torrid afternoon on Sunday.

The Portuguese handed Kenny his first start of the season, .

The Republic of Ireland suffered a stress fracture, and will not return to action until later next month.

Silva felt compelled to replace Coleman with Kenny, but it was a move that ultimately did not pay off.

Kenny did do OK in the first half and laid on a good assist for Gylfi Sigurdsson’s equalising header.

But the youngster struggled to cope with the dangerous Felipe Anderson.

The Brazilian made life extremely difficult for the Liverpool-born defender and he looked quite shaky as the forward attacked with pace.

Holgate to right back?

Perhaps Silva ought to consider moving Holgate to right back to cover Coleman’s absence.

The player is no stranger to the position and woud arguably be a more solid defensive option.

He has good pace to cope with the league’s speedy wingers and can be quite aggressive when the situation demands.

Despite being the same age as Kenny, Holgate is more seasoned and may be the better option going forwards.

With Phil Jagielka, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina all set to return soon, Silva may feel encouraged to shift Holgate over.

Mina is very likely to come into the side once he shakes off his ankle issue. Holgate could be the man to lose his place so it’s opportune that Coleman is injured and Kenny has started poorly.

He’s made a great start in his fledgling career, and will be hoping to continue playing regular football.
