‘Silly’: Simon Jordan claims Antonio Conte said something that’s just not true after Tottenham’s latest defeat

Simon Jordan has hit out at Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte for one of his comments after his side’s defeat to Wolves on Sunday.
Spurs hosted Bruno Lage’s side at home and it was always going to be a difficult fixture. Wolves are a tough team, but the way Tottenham started the game made it impossible for them to even think of a win.
Two errors by Hugo Lloris inside the first 18 minutes of the game gave Wolves a 2-0 lead. Spurs tried really hard to get back into the game in the second half, but the visitors’ defence just proved to be too strong for them to break down.
Conte was quizzed about his side’s character after the game and the Italian claimed, as per : “The problem is that you cannot buy the winning mentality.” That has irked TalkSport pundit Jordan.
Simon Jordan: Tottenham boss Conte has made a silly observation
He said on yesterday: “I don’t like the way he speaks. Riddle me this, riddle me that, and we don’t quite understand it. Come out and say something. Say it wasn’t good enough or that you’re going be buying players in the summer. Say something, for the love of God.
“Stop keep riddling people so people don’t really know where you’re coming from. That might be because he doesn’t want to give people a steering of what his plans are.”
“[Conte said] you can’t buy a winning mentality – that’s a silly observation because that’s precisely what teams have done.
“That’s why Chelsea and Man City have been so dominant over the last 17/18 years. Certainly Man City for the last ten and Chelsea from 2003 when [Roman] Abramovich bought the club. So, it’s a silly observation.”

TBR View:
Tottenham really do look like they lack a winning mentality at the moment. They’ve lost three Premier League games on the bounce and with Manchester City coming up next, it will most likely be four.
Conte’s right when he said Spurs can’t buy a winning mentality. Yes, they can go out and buy a few players who have won a lot in their careers, but the problem they currently have is the mentality within the club. That will not change overnight.
Jordan’s point about Chelsea and Manchester City isn’t wrong either, but Spurs don’t have the money that either of these two sides do, which makes Conte’s job so much more difficult.
It will be interesting to see if Spurs will be able to recover from their terrible run of results. If they don’t, the pressure will mount on Conte and we all know what Daniel Levy is like with managers when things don’t go to plan.
