‘Silly boy’… Roy Keane left outraged by what £26m Aston Villa player did against Tottenham today
Roy Keane couldn’t quite believe an incident involving Aston Villa’s Diego Carlos against Tottenham Hotspur today.
Keane was speaking during half-time coverage of the game and thought Carlos was very fortunate to avoid giving away a penalty and possibly avoiding further punishment.

In the third minute of the game, Carlos blocked Spurs’ Bryan Gil from reaching a ball Emiliano Martinez was collecting.
However, the defender also used his elbow to keep Gil at bay – something that went unpunished.
VAR was unavailable at the time due to a technical error, which may have proved Carlos’ saviour.
Speaking on the matter, : “Silly boy, he must look and think there’s obviously no chance he’s getting the ball but once you raise your elbow, it’s kind of a swinging elbow, very, very lucky.”
Also in the studio, former Spurs defender Michael Dawson added his view.
He said: “I can’t believe it, as a defender sometimes you can use your arms – he puts his elbow straight into Bryan Gil’s face there.
“When it was live I didn’t see anything, the balls so far away, I was thinking ‘why is Diego Carlos getting involved in this?’
“There’s no need, you see the way Bryan Gil’s face goes, he is a lucky, lucky boy.”
Roy Keane thought Villa’s Deigo Carlos was lucky to escape punishment at Tottenham
Of course, so early in the game, the moment could have been decisive.
Although not available to check this incident, VAR are certainly not having a quiet time when visiting the Tottenham Hotspur stadium recently.

It certainly will be interesting to see if anyone from a Tottenham standpoint questions the situation in the fall out of the game.
As Keane protests, Carlos seemingly had no need to risk punishment for Villa, especially with the Tottenham attacker unlikely to get to the ball.
Bryan Gil was visibly in pain from the elbow, but his protests were ultimately ignored in a chaotic first half.
Unai Emery’s approach to play three centre-backs perhaps didn’t come to fruition on this occasion, with Tottenham dominating the early stages.
