Signing Arsenal star could edge Manchester United closer to title tilt

Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be in line for a switch to Manchester United during the summer and that could spark memories of a famous transfer for the Red Devils.

In 2012, United lured Robin van Persie to Old Trafford taking him from Arsenal for £24 million .

In RVP’s first season at the club, United won the Premier League largely thanks to his 26 Premier League goals and 15 assists.

The Gabonese player is likely to be available for around £50 million , with his contract up during the summer of 2021.

United added Bruno Fernandes in January and he already looks like a player capable of taking the Premier League by storm.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won’t want to stop there though and he’ll want Ed Woodward to dig deeper into those typically tight pockets of his.

Landing Aubameyang could prove a masterstroke of a signing.

Not only does he possess the quality to grab 20-25 goals a season but his arrival would also significantly worsen one of United’s rivals.

Van Persie was a sensation for the Red Devils. He scored 58 goals in 105 appearances and also registered 21 assists.

Aubameyang isn’t too dissimilar to the Dutchman in the way of style and there’s no reason why he couldn’t have the same impact.

Competition

Some more firepower would be ideal for Solskjaer and signing the Arsenal star could see the club challenge for the title.

It’s been too long since a club the size of United challenged for the league title.

Fernandes arriving needs to be just the start as far as transfers are concerned and Aubameyang’s signing could edge them closer to Liverpool and Manchester City.
