‘Sick and tired’… Alan Brazil hits back after what he’s been hearing said about Celtic now

The criticism that Celtic were set to receive was a given considering just how heavily they lost at Atletico Madrid last night.

But although a lot was made about the VAR sending off of Daizen Maeda and how harsh it was, ultimately there were mistakes made on the night that contributed to Celtic’s 6-0 defeat.

As soon as the final whistle went, the inquest began. And first up was former Tottenham Hotspur player, now turned pundit, Jamie O’Hara.

Speaking on last night, O’Hara said the game was ‘pathetic viewing’ and questioned whether or not Celtic should be allowed in the competition.

Quite the sanctimonious rant. O’Hara seems to forget that most clubs in England would struggle in the Champions League with Celtic’s budget.

Anyway, Alan Brazil hit back and told O’Hara that he needs to pay more attention because, despite last night’s result, the TalkSPORT host believes that Celtic are making improvements in Europe’s top competition.

Brazil said [], “I think they are getting better because in the home games they were a little bit unlucky by the way! You have to watch them, Jamie, again.

“I’m getting sick and tired of people hammering Celtic because in the home games they have played well.

The Champions League is a bridge too far for Celtic. For now

Like Brazil, I have also seen improvements in Celtic in the competition. A draw against Atletico is a far cry from the 3-0 humping at home against Real Madrid that was witnessed under Ange Postecoglou last season.

And a narrow 2-1 loss to Lazio when Celtic dominated the game was just hard luck. However, what cannot be denied is that Celtic are just not at Champions League level yet.

Investment is required to allow Brendan Rodgers to strengthen the first team to allow him at least a chance to compete because right now, he is fighting with arm tied behind his back.

Now no one is saying that Celtic will ever win the competition. Those days are long gone but nights like Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus could return if Rodgers is given the right financial backing.

It’s unlikely that it will happen but hopefully, the Celtic board will have watched last night and it will kick them into gear and allow Rodgers to spend big either in January or in the summer window.
