‘Shouldn’t be saying this’… Club legend says 21-year-old could leave after he’s linked with Arsenal

Although Arsenal are unlikely to make a big move this month, it seems they are lining one or two up for the summer.

Mikel Arteta’s side could definitely use a January boost, but FFP restrictions are said to have curtailed any significant plans.

That being said, it does seem as if Arsenal are about to offload two players before the month ends.

Perhaps a squad clear out will pave the way for some impressive moves in six months time, much akin to Declan Rice’s signing.

And given Arsenal are now linked with another top English talent in Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, it seems a move could materialise this summer.

At least, that’s what Everton legend Alan Stubbs seems to think.

Stubbs was speaking on yesterday and was talking up Branthwaite’s rich ability.

And with Arsenal linked with a future move for the defender in the summer, the pundit thought Branthwaite was destined for a big club.

Discussing Branthwaite’s rich potential, Stubbs said: “He looks like he’s going to be top drawer.

“He’s got all the attributes that I think any top Premier League club or European club would be looking for.

“He’s quick, he’s strong, he’s athletic, he reads the game very well for a young lad.

“And I think playing next to [James] Tarkowski has really helped him in terms of his experience and guiding him along the way.

“I shouldn’t be saying this but I think he’s destined for a big club. I hope he spends a lot more years at Everton because he’s been very good to watch.”

Mikel Arteta needs a new centre-back

Whether it’s Jarrad Branthwaite or Ousmane Diomande, it’s clear that Arsenal need to move for a defender in the summer.

Mikel Arteta’s squad is still one or two players short at the back, even with everyone returning from injury.

Although both Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu have often played at centre-back, there’s a position vacant that suits a top young defender.

Diomande may prove the most logical choice, he’s likely to cost slightly less than Branthwaite.

However, Arsenal fans would likely be happy with either – two defenders who should rise to the top of the game.
