‘Should win the Ballon d’Or’: Some fans hail ‘wonderful’ Chelsea star’s international display

A number of Chelsea fans have waxed lyrical about Cesar Azpilicueta’s latest display for Spain.

The Blues captain played the full 90 minutes as La Roja reached the UEFA Nations League final at the expense of Italy on Wednesday.

Spain ran out 2-1 winners over the Euro 2020 champions, ending their record 37-game unbeaten run in the process.

Azpilicueta’s Premier League colleague Ferran Torres scored both of Spain’s goals in the first half, converting two Mikel Oyarzabal crosses.

Torres’ second came just minutes after Italy captain Leonardo Bonucci received a second yellow card.

Although Lorenzo Pellegrini pulled a goal back for the Azzurri, they couldn’t complete the fightback.

Azpilicueta delivered a typically solid display for his nation, although he did pick up an unnecessary yellow card in the first half.

The 32-year-old, who boasts an impressive silverware haul at club level, now stands on the brink of his first senior international trophy with Spain.
