Should Rangers rival Scottish Premiership side for Leeds United attacker?

Hearts are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United striker Jay-Roy Grot on a season-long loan this summer, but surely Rangers could do with adding the powerhouse striker to their ranks.

that Craig Levein’s side want to sign the 21-year-old attacker, who spent the entire 2018-19 campaign on loan at Dutch top-tier club VVV-Venlo.

Being used out wide and up front, Netherlands Under-21 international Grot scored six goals and laid on three assists in 34 league and cup appearances. He is set to leave Leeds on loan again, with Marcelo Bielsa keen to offload.

Since his £1.5million () from NEC Nijmegen in the summer of 2017, Grot has struggled at Elland Road. Indeed, the attacker has managed just 22 Leeds appearances – scoring only one goal.

Hearts do have competition in their bid to land Grot, though. Indeed, Vitesse Arnhem want to bring the 6ft 4in attacker back to his home country again – but should Rangers join the race for the attacker?

It is clear as day that Rangers need three, top-quality strikers. Last season, Alfredo Morelos’ constant lack of discipline pushed Steven Gerrard into signing Jermain Defoe on loan from Bournemouth until the summer of 2020.

Kyle Lafferty is the club’s third-choice striker, but that Lafferty could leave Ibrox this summer – though Apollon Limassol have failed in their bid to land the Northern Ireland target man.

Lafferty acts as a sort of plan B in comparison to Defoe and Morelos, as he boasts height and physicality up front. Grot is a similar kind of striker, given his enormous frame that dwarfed defenders in the Eredivisie last term.

If Lafferty is to leave Ibrox, Rangers have got to seriously consider beating Hearts to the signature of the young Dutchman as they embark on another gruelling season that sees them compete in the Europa League qualifying rounds.
