Should Gerrard give more Rangers opportunities to McCrorie?

With the usually reliable Lassana Coulibaly out of form, Steven Gerrard is considering his options in Rangers’ midfield.

Coulibaly is on loan from Angers and he started his time at Rangers confidently.

But a dip in form of late has Gerrard scratching his head when it comes to central midfield options.

With Graham Dorrans out injured and Greg Docherty and Jason Holt out on loan, his choices are more limited than they perhaps should be.

But it could be the ideal time for Gerrard to give youngster Ross McCrorie a big vote of confidence.

McCrorie is an exceptionally talented young man. But he needs to get a few more senior games under his belt to progress in his career.

This season, he has played 10 times for the Gers, including three games in the league.

The 20-year-old is equally adept at centre-half or in a holding midfield role.

His 6ft 3in frame makes him dominant in the air and he is confident with the ball at his feet.

If Gerrard uses McCrorie in the next few games, he could judge whether the youngster is ready to become a permanent fixture in the first-team.

There are high hopes for the Scotland under-21 international’s career for club and country.

And now is the time to reward him with a bit of faith and give him an extended run-out with the first-team.
