Having shown flashes of brilliance with Chelsea’s youth teams and on loan with Vitesse Arnhem – where he – he linked up with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard with the view of picking up some domestic first-team experience.

Little did he know he would end up in the EFL Cup, where he shone for the Rams in spite of their eventual exit from the competition.

In Mount’s absence, loan signing Matteo Kovacic has been making regular appearances for Sarri’s Chelsea, although he is in terms of goals and assists.

Despite securing the signing of Kovacic on a season-long loan from Spanish giants Real Madrid, the Blues failed to agree a deal for an option to buy clause meaning that, come May, he will be back off to the Spanish capital.

With Mount making great progress with Derby in the Championship, the Blues might be better off looking to promote a young English talent to the first-team to replace Kovacic once his loan deal expires.
