It seems fair to say that Patrick Roberts has struggled to recapture the form that he showed during his time on loan at Celtic in the years since.
Roberts spent two and a half seasons at Parkhead. His final year was plagued by injury. But his form during the 2016/17 campaign was simply sensational.

The winger scored 11 goals and contributed 19 assists in all competitions for the Hoops. It was, of course, the year in which Celtic won a Treble and went unbeaten domestically.
Unfortunately, Roberts has not quite managed to kick on from there. And there now appears to be a question mark hanging over his future heading into the January transfer window.
, his loan spell at Middlesbrough could be cut short. Neil Warnock has suggested that he plans to hold talks with the 23-year-old about his situation.

Should he return to Manchester City next month, perhaps Neil Lennon should consider making a move to bring him back.
Things have changed since Roberts was at Celtic. And of course, a lot of time has passed since he was there.
But if Lennon can get the best out of the wide-man during the remaining months of the season, he could arguably be a fantastic option to have as Celtic look to get themselves back on track for 10 in a row.
City – who paid around £11 million for Roberts (via ) – will surely have few qualms about letting him return to Celtic if his time at the Riverside Stadium is cut short.
The coming months could be pivotal for both Roberts and Celtic. And for some, bringing him back may seem like too much of a gamble.
But they know how good he can be when at his best. So perhaps taking that gamble could prove to be a masterstroke.
