‘Should be there’, ‘looked sharper’: Some Spurs fans want ‘amazing’ 23-year-old to start in derby
A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have called for Steven Bergwijn to start for Spurs in the North London derby on Sunday.
The 23-year-old has largely been a rotational player for Jose Mourinho this season, with 13 appearances in all competitions, eight of those being starts.
Bergwijn is this season, but he has done well for the most part when called upon, and was especially bright against LASK in midweek.

The Dutchman came off the bench with 25 minutes to go, and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact as he won the penalty which Dele Alli converted to put Spurs 3-2 up.
Though Tottenham conceded late on for a final score of 3-3, it was nonetheless a decent shift from the January signing.
In addition, Bergwijn also offers a lot defensively as he often tracks back, and with Arsenal boasting several strong attacking players, he’d certainly be a good shout on the right flank.
Gareth Bale, in comparison, doesn’t tend to track back as often, and with this in mind, some fans reckon the Netherlands international should be starting.
Here is what some supporters have been saying on social media:
Nope. Moura/Bergwin for Bale. Bale doesn’t track back enough to put him in this game.

Spot on, Bale yesterday was pretty good. Lucas or Steive aren’t no where close to Bale when it comes to attacking however in defending Steive should be there.

Not Moura but yes definitely Bergwijin over Bale

Spot on except Bale atm. I can’t trust him to do the defensive side and I am sure Jose can’t. He switches off. Put Stevie in and he will cover the right side.

Bergwijn for Bale as he does the defensive work

Bergwijn, Offensively not the best but defensively recently he’s been amazing

Personally I think Bergwijn should start on Sunday, he’s looked sharper and we can always bring on Bale or Lucas off the bench if needed
