‘Shocking signing’: Celtic legend pinpoints weakness that Rangers exploited in derby
Much of the criticism following Celtic’s latest defeat against Rangers has been of Odsonne Edouard, but John Collins has highlighted another player set to leave this summer.
Diego Laxalt, whose loan from Milan expires at the end of the season, endured a torrid afternoon at Ibrox as interim boss John Kennedy’s side lost 2-0 in the Scottish Cup fourth round.
The 28-year-old was replaced at half-time by Greg Taylor, and there were few positives to be taken from his showing in the first 45 minutes.
He was found wanting at both Rangers goals, and Celtic legend John Collins was scathing in his appraisal of the left-back’s time in Glasgow.
Speaking on , he said: “Celtic have had the worst season possible, everything has went wrong for them.
“Diego Laxalt has been a shocking signing, and how he played yesterday I will never know.
“His recovery runs, tackles and blocks. He was a weakness that Rangers exploited.”
Collins insisted the gulf between the sides wasn’t as big as some have claimed, saying: “First and foremost after an Old Firm game there are screams.
“Everyone is saying Rangers were brilliant and Celtic were hopeless. That wasn’t the case. Rangers were not brilliant, they took their chances and Celtic weren’t hopeless.
“Defensively they conceded two poor goals but they created four good chances.”
Laxalt made his debut against Rangers in another 2-0 defeat in October, and the Uruguay international has made 26 appearances.
