‘Shocker’: Rangers legend gives scathing verdict on Celtic star’s Ibrox performance

Brian Laudrup caused more than his share of problems for Celtic full-backs during his time in Glasgow, and he watched on Sunday as Diego Laxalt suffered similar treatment.

The Uruguay international lasted just 45 minutes at Ibrox, with interim manager John Kennedy taking him off and throwing on Greg Taylor.

Laxalt endured a a torrid time at the hands of Joe Aribo and Nathan Patterson, and failed to cover himself in glory at each of Rangers’ goals.

Writing in his column on page 78 of Tuesday’s , the Rangers legend was full of praise for Aribo and Patterson’s performance in the 2-o Scottish Cup fourth round win for his former side.

When it came to Laxalt, however, the Dane was somewhat less complimentary.

He said: “Patterson has staked his claim in the best possible way. It shows me that he is a young man with a lot of character.

“That’s something you obviously need as a foundation for a successful Rangers career.

“His combination with Joe Aribo caused Celtic so many problems on Sunday. Rangers were electric down their right-hand side, particularly in the first half.

“I said last wee that I hoped Aribo could go and grab this game by the scruff of the neck. I wasn’t disappointed.

“I thought it was definitely his best Old Firm performance yet.

“We have to say Celtic’s left-hand side just didn’t function. What a shocker Diego Laxalt had.

“That can happen at times if you start a match badly. It just snowballs from there.

“But Rangers had to take full advantage. Rangers delivered.

“With Patterson, Aribo and others continuing to grow, they can feel optimistic about the colour of their future.”

Rangers will face St Johnstone in the next round on Sunday at Ibrox, after facing the same opposition on Premiership duty at McDiarmid Park on Wednesday night.
