Sheffield Wednesday round-up: Derby ace wanted, Lee Camp trains with the club

Sheffield Wednesday face a potentially busy domestic deadline day, with Garry Monk keen to ensure his side are well stocked.

The Owls started this season on minus 12 and will be hoping to return to normality as quickly as possible.

Here is a look at what is happening at Hillsborough today as the clock ticks closer to 5pm.

Rams star an option

Jack Marriott could be allowed to leave Derby County today and that has alerted Sheffield Wednesday.

The player signed for £4 million in 2018 has struggled to scale the heights that his promise suggested when he checked in from Peterborough United.

Marriott has played in all four of Derby’s games so far this season but boss Phillip Cocu still seems unsure of the 26-year-old.

The Beverley-born talisman has scored 18 goals in 87 appearances for the Rams and his undoubted highlight came during the semi-final of the play-offs during 2018/19.

Marriott scored twice as Derby came from 2-0 down to reach the Championship play-off final – including netting a late winner.

Monk is keen to take Marriott on a season-long loan deal from Wednesday’s rivals.

Goalkeeper trains with the Owls

Free-agent Lee Camp is currently training with Wednesday and it’ll be interesting to see if a deal can be struck.

The 36-year-old left Birmingham City at the end of last season where he previously worked with Monk.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Owls hold any real desire to sign the experienced stopper.

Monk admitted to this week that he had a good relationship with Camp and he was merely training with the club to stay fit.

The former Forest, Derby and Sunderland performer has played over 500 times at Championship level and would perhaps be a decent addition for the Owls.

Flint set for Hillsborough?

Cardiff City defender Aden Flint has fallen down the pecking order with the Bluebirds and he could leave before the window shuts.

Monk was coy on the centre-back when quizzed by , claiming ‘if we can do something great. That’s the ideal situation.’

The 31-year-old hasn’t played this season and has never seemingly been fancied by Neil Harris.

The defender would be an asset to any Championship club though, having played 194 times in the second tier.

Wednesday do perhaps have a requirement for another central defender and Flint could prove a solid signing.
