Garry Monk sends heartfelt Tweet to Sheffield Wednesday fans after taking managerial position

Sheffield Wednesday appointed a permanent successor to Steve Bruce on Friday when Garry Monk was announced as the club’s new boss.

The 40-year-old manager has been out of work since leaving Birmingham City in the summer.

He also had spells managing Swansea City, Middlesbrough and Leeds United, all with a limited degree of success.

The Blues were deducted 12 points during last season and his hands were tied for a large period when it came to transfers.

Monk replaced caretaker boss Lee Bullen who has overseen things since Bruce’s departure. The club has opted to replace him after an alarming run of form, which has seen them lose three of their last four league games.

Following his arrival at Hillsborough, Monk took to Twitter to introduce himself to the loyal army of Wednesday supporters:

Monk knows all about managing in the Championship and his challenge at Wednesday will be to return them to the Premier League.

Last season, the Owls saw their fierce steel-city rivals Sheffield United reach the top-flight with automatic promotion.

That will have hurt and Monk knows he can ease those wounds by hitting the ground running and challenging for promotion at his new club.

Monk will have to wait until Sunday for his first game in charge. His new charges travel to Huddersfield Town for a Yorkshire-derby with the Terriers still looking for their first win of the campaign.
