Sheffield Wednesday fans react as Celtic reportedly eye Liam Shaw

Celtic are reportedly looking at raiding Sheffield Wednesday to sign teenage talent Liam Shaw on a pre-contract basis, after the versatile star entered the final six months of his current contract – and Wednesday fans have responded on Twitter.

Shaw, 19, has broken into the Championship side’s first team this season, clocking up 12 appearances in all competitions. He has now played 14 times for the Owls, having made his debut for the second-tier outfit last season.

The teenager can play in midfield and at centre-back, and even scored in a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough earlier this month. But Wednesday are already in danger of losing the youngster, with his contract expiring at the end of June.

Celtic are looking at the Championship for new talent, with Preston North End duo Ben Davies and Ben Pearson being strongly linked. Now, Shaw’s name has jumped onto Celtic’s shortlist, given his contract situation.

Celtic, as a non-English side, can sign Shaw this month for nothing – or a nominal fee – on a pre-contract basis. It can see Celtic get him now, but the player will only arrive at Parkhead when his contract ends. English clubs have to wait until the summer.

Supporters of the Yorkshire side responded on Twitter to the reported news that Celtic are interested in their young talent. Many believe he Wednesday are making a mistake if they let him go, while one fan says it would be a “great move for him”.
