Shayon Harrison names ex-Spurs player he hopes to emulate
Shayon Harrison that former Tottenham Hotspur teammate Vincent Janssen recommended he join Almere City last year, and the 22-year-old suggested that he hopes to emulate the Dutchman in the future.
Harrison left Spurs in 2019 after making one first-team appearance for the club in the League Cup. He spent the large majority of his spell out on loan.
The youngster would leave Tottenham permanently last year. And he would end up moving to the second tier in the Netherlands.
He is not the first player to have Almere and Tottenham on his CV however, as he explained how Janssen influenced his decision to make the move having started his career with the club.
The Englishman also suggested that his goal is to now follow in Janssen’s footsteps.
“He is a legend at Almere, where he started his career, so I sought his advice and he helped me with the decision to move here,” .
“I am trying to emulate his path, as Vinny went from Almere to AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie, and then to the Premier League.”
Harrison has made an impressive start to life with Almere. He has scored seven goals in 21 league appearances so far this term.
His side are one place and one point outside the promotion play-off places at present. So they would surely love to get the campaign going again in the near future so they can potentially push towards what would be the next step in Harrison’s career plan.
If he can impress in the Eredivisie at some stage in the future, perhaps he may be offered another chance in the Premier League.
But from there, he may be looking to leave the similarities with Janssen behind and perhaps prove a point to Tottenham.
