Shackleton was Leeds only bright spark during disappointing defeat

Jamie Shackleton starred for Leeds despite Southampton defeat.

The young academy man was standing in for the injured Luke Ayling at right-back and he shone.

The Thorp Arch product is fantastic and can be deployed in a number of roles.

On this occasion, he featured at right-back and he looked like a seasoned pro on the day.

The start that Leeds have made to the season is a worrying one.

The Whites have just one win from their first seven games.

Yet if more of their top players can match the performance put in from Shackleton yesterday then a return to form is possible.

In his performance vs Southampton, Shackleton clocked up som mightily impressive numbers.

He showed his talent both in and out of possession on the south coast.

Making 5 interceptions and 4 tackles, Southampton ran into plenty of problems when attacking down the Leeds right ().

In possession, Shackleton was also a nuisance for the Saints.

He won 2 fouls for his side and completed 3 dribbles, helping to progress the ball out from the back.

Shackleton certainly will be keen to get more minutes after his performance.

However, when Luke Ayling returns Shackleton will likely be moved back to midfield.

His energy and ability to shine with and without the ball makes him a fantastic option for Bielsa.

Last season saw the Leeds academy star feature 13 times in the Premier League ().

The majority of those appearances came in midfield, so you’d imagine the 22-year-old will be keen to get back to playing that role.
