Christian Ziege
The German winger made 227 appearances for Bayern from which he scored 46 goals and provided 41 assists across a seven-year period in Munich before joining AC Milan.
The left footer spent two seasons in Serie A with the Rossoneri before coming to the Premier League with Middlesbrough.
After one season at the Riverside Stadium, the 72-time German international was brought to Anfield by the late Gerard Houllier in the summer of 2000.
Ziege spent a season with the Redmen before joining Tottenham where he spent three reasons before returning to his homeland with Gladbach in 2004 and retiring in 2006.
Pepe Reina
After joining Liverpool from Villarreal, the Spaniard made 394 appearances for the Merseyside club between 2005 and 2013.
Reina was the club’s undisputed number one for eight seasons, and played in the 2007 Champions League final defeat by AC Milan.
But the Spanish international lost his place under Brendan Rodgers following the arrival of Simon Mignolet and prior to joining Bayern he spent the previous season on loan at Napoli.
The 39-year-old, who is currently playing for Lazio, joined the Bundesliga champions in August 2014 and spent one season at the club where he made three Bundesliga appearances as Manuel Neuer’s backup.
Dietmar Hamann
Ever since retiring from professional football in 2011, the former German international who scored the last goal at the old Wembley has not been afraid to give his thoughts on current matters.
After coming through the Bayern Munich Academy, Hamann spent five years in the German club’s first team before moving to England with Newcastle United.
Following one season on Tyneside, the all-action midfielder joined Liverpool for in July 1999 and spent seven years on Merseyside where he won nine trophies, including the 2005 Champions League final.
After a spell with Manchester City, Hamann retired in 2011 following a stint in League One with MK Dons.
Markus Babbel
The German centre-back was part of the Bayern Munich side that got beat by Manchester United in the Champions League final back in 1999.
Babbel played 261 games for the Bavarians before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2000.The 51-cap German made 73 appearances for Liverpool and was part of the 2001 side that won four trophies.
After having a season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, Babbel moved back to Germany with Stuttgart where he made 63 appearances before retiring in 2007.
Xabi Alonso
What a signing this man was Liverpool and he was a top-class player under Rafa Benitez and conjured up a formidable partnership with Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherano.
After arriving from Real Sociedad in August 2004 for , Alonso won five trophies during his five-year stay before Real Madrid signed the midfield marvel for .
Following five years in the Spanish capital, Alonso made the switch to Munich where he played under Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola.
The technically blessed midfielder retired in 2017 and is currently the manager of Real Sociedad B.
Xherdan Shaqiri
The Basel wonderkid, who was one of the hottest prospects across Europe, was snapped up by Bayern Munich in 2012.
But after a promising first season in Munich under Jupp Heynckes, the Switzerland international failed to kick on under the tutelage of Guardiola.
With a move to Inter Milan not inspiring Shaqiri to fulfil his burgeoning potential, the left footer came to the Premier League with Stoke City.
