Sessegnon yet to return to full Tottenham training after injury – Gold

Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has told that he understands that Ryan Sessegnon, as of Tuesday, was not quite back working with the full Tottenham Hotspur squad as he continues his recovery from injury.

Spurs are stepping up their plans ahead of the resumption of the Premier League season later this month. They will face Motherwell in a friendly on Friday.

It seems that there is a question mark over whether Sessegnon will play against the Scottish Premiership side.

Gold believes that the behind closed doors friendly with Well may possibly come too soon for the 22-year-old. However, he is edging closer to being back in the fold.

“I know Sess is back working on the grass, but not quite back fully with the squad yet. Or certainly, that was the case yesterday when I was asking around,” .

“So I think, since then, some things have shown him out on the grass. But I think he’s not quite back with the full squad yet. So whether the Motherwell games comes a little bit too soon, we’ll see.”

The World Cup break probably came at a decent time for Sessegnon. Before the win over Leeds, he had featured in all but two of Spurs’ Premier League games this season.

Unfortunately, injuries have been an issue for the former Fulham man during his time in North London. So it would have been incredibly frustrating if he had been sidelined for a number of games.

But it would appear that there is a good chance of the youngster being ready to go by the time Tottenham face Brentford on Boxing Day.

And with Ivan Perisic still away at the World Cup, it would seem that Sessegnon will have an opportunity to make a statement at wing-back.

Of course, Antonio Conte is still likely to rotate his options once Perisic is back. The Croatian’s arrival appears to have had a really positive impact on Sessegnon.

But Perisic is going to need some time once Croatia’s tournament ends. And with that, Sessegnon could have a chance to stake a claim to be first-choice.
