‘He’s a lovely guy’: Sergio Reguilon reveals the Spurs player he’s really trying to help in training

Tottenham wing-back, Sergio Reguilon, has revealed he is trying his best to mentor and help fellow left-sides star Ryan Sessegnon.

Sessegnon has had a stuttered start to his Tottenham career in the main. However, he has been involved more this season, with Antonio Conte putting his trust into the former Fulham man at times. Of course, Sessegnon is highly-rated and his position suits the system Conte is trying to play.

But despite having him as competition, Spanish star Reguilon has revealed he is actually trying to help Sessegnon as much as possible in training.

“I speak a lot with Ryan. He’s a lovely guy. I remember when I started in football, I had a teammate older than me. He helped me; he gave me so many tips. I loved that and so I try to do the same for Ryan,” Reguilon told the matchday programme, via

This type of relationship within a squad is exactly what Conte is trying to harness. Tottenham are currently playing some fine football, with the wing-backs key for the club’s ethos.

Reguilon is currently out after pulling up injured in training last week. He has also revealed he is struggling to overcome covid, admitting he is not quite back to full fitness just yet.

TBR’s View: Reguilon And Sessegnon Can Be Big For Tottenham

It’s always nice to hear a player is helping someone out in the squad and this is a nice touch from Reguilon.

In the long-term, both players could be crucial for Spurs. Reguilon is the main man at the moment but in Conte’s high energy system, Spurs will need players competing in all positions and ready to go.

Reguilon is a quality wing-back and if Sessegnon can learn from him, then this only benefits Tottenham. It will certainly be interesting just how good Sessegnon can be, given his obvious talent.
