Sepp van den Berg hopes Liverpool start £180,000-a-week star tonight

Liverpool youngster Sepp van den Berg has told that he hopes the Reds call upon Sadio Mane to play against Preston tonight.

The Dutch defender has been granted permission by his parent club to play in the Carabao Cup clash.

It’s perhaps a bizarre turn of events; although Liverpool don’t want their player to miss the chance to play in such a big game.

The youngster has been thriving at Deepdale. He has been a mainstay in the team this season, featuring in an unnatural right-sided wing-back role.

The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season with the Championship outfit. He made 16 appearances and shone sufficiently to be invited back for a season-long loan this campaign.

Preston are the draw specialists in the second tier. Nonetheless, Van Den Berg is getting plenty of football and has played in 17 games during 2021/22.

It’s hard to knock his confidence and in an exclusive interview with he has picked one Liverpool player he hopes to face tonight.

“I want to play against the best team they can put out! Obviously, I know it’s not going to be the same team against United, but I hope Sadio is playing. As a player, you want to test yourself against the best. If he plays I can see how much I’ve grown since last time I came up against him.”

Van Den Berg will hope to showcase talents against Liverpool star Mane

It was perhaps a surprise when the player missed out on the starting eleven for the game at Manchester United. As a result, Klopp might choose to call on him as one of the experienced heads in a relatively young Liverpool team tonight.

That could be a nice test for Van Den Berg in a bizarre way. He will want to showcase that he’s not fazed by playing against the very best players in the Premier League, ahead of a possible Liverpool chance.

If he has a good game tonight then perhaps his time will come at Anfield in the future. Liverpool supporters will simply be hoping he doesn’t play that well that he helps Preston cause a huge cup upset.
