‘Sent a clear message’: Steven Gerrard raves about Rangers man who’s been ‘fantastic’ in training
Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has waxed lyrical about Ibrox midfielder Scott Arfield following his efforts in training and on the pitch.
The 31-year-old was on the fringes of the Rangers first team at the start of the season, mostly coming on as a substitute.
However, he has returned to the Light Blues starting XI and has been in impressive form, which could see him given a key role against Galatasaray in the Europa League tomorrow.
And Gerrard says that any player who reckons they should be a Rangers regular should pay close attention on how the Canada international has turned his fortunes around over the past few weeks.
“I think the main player who I’d like to mention has to be Scott Arfield because at the beginning of the season, he wasn’t picked as a starter, but at no given moment did he drop his standards or his attitude,” he told the Rangers .
“He took it as a challenge to win his place back – he trained harder, he trained better and his opportunity came and he has arguably been our most consistent player over the last run of games.
“So I am really pleased with how he has gone about his business and he has sent a clear message to anyone else on the fringe or not getting much game time at the moment.
“A lot of people and a lot of players speak in the press – Scott did his talking on the training pitch which was fantastic for me.”

Arfield has been superb for Rangers over the past few games, his runs from deep and across the opposition defence, not to mention his vision and his engine, giving Gerrard and the squad something they’ve been sorely lacking.
It’s not just about what he offers to the Light Blues though – his attitude, even whilst having to sit on the bench, has been superb, prompting the manager to not only give him the game time he’s rightfully earned, but also single his player out for praise.
