‘Sell’: Some Tottenham fans react to reported interest in their defender

Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld is reportedly attracting interest – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have responded by claiming this summer could be a good time to sell him.

Belgian publication reports that Club Brugge are interested in signing the defender.

It is understood that they have already made contact regarding his Spurs future, but will have to wait until the summer to hear the player’s plans.

The report details that Belgium international Alderweireld has previously indicated he would like to return to his country at some point.

Alderweireld, 32, is still under contract with the north London club until 2023, and he’s made 27 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

He’s still getting fairly regular minutes this campaign, albeit manager Jose Mourinho has opted to rotate his team selection in the defence.

Alderweireld was at the heart of the team under ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino that went close to winning silverware on a couple occasions at Spurs, before ultimately falling short.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media have reacted to the Alderweireld speculation by suggesting offloading him to Belgium this summer could makes sense for all parties.

He can still be a consistent performer at the back with his reading of the game, but the pace of Premier League football is much quicker than the Belgian division.
