‘Seems strange’ – Leeds fans react as Liam Kitching becomes latest defender to depart

Leeds United have announced the departure of young defender Liam Kitching . Kitching leaves Leeds on a permanent transfer, joining Forest Green Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

Last season, Kitching was on loan at Harrogate Town – the town of his birth. During his time with Harrogate, he played 34 times, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

With Kitching at the back, Harrogate finished in the play-offs in the National League. But the 19-year-old’s spell ended in a disappointing defeat in the eliminator at AFC Fylde.

Kitching returned to Leeds with question marks surrounding his immediate future. But it seems the Whites have decided to cash in on the promising teenager. He departs Leeds without a senior appearance to his name and he will play League Two football next term.

But Leeds fans questioned the decision to let Kitching go amid a mass exodus of defenders. Aapo Halme has already joined Barnsley, Paudie O’Connor has moved to Bradford and Hugo Diaz has been released.

And despite bringing in Ben White on loan from Brighton, Leeds are likely to lose Pontus Jansson. According to various reports (), the Sweden defender will join Brentford for just £5.5m.
