Securing Ross McCrorie’s long-term Rangers future has prevented another David Bates mistake
Ross McCrorie has recently proven himself to be a massive asset for Rangers. The 20-year-old has benefitted from Ovie Ejaria’s exit and dips in form from other midfielders at Ibrox.
The youngster’s form has certainly not gone unnoticed by his gaffer. Steven Gerrard just how impressed he has been with McCrorie after the 0-0 draw with Kilmarnock at the weekend.
“But I’m pleased with the clean sheet and there were a few positives to take.
“I thought Ross McCrorie tonight was outstanding.
“Especially the second half – you will not see a better enforcer performance than that.”
Rangers must now be extremely pleased they have avoided another David Bates situation with their latest young star.
Last summer, Bates’ contract at Rangers was coming to an end. In April he agreed a move to German sleeping giants Hamburg. Losing a top talent like Bates for nothing was a big mistake from the Ibrox management.

Bates has gone on to impress in the German second tier. With Hamburg top of 2.Bundesliga he could be playing in the Bundesliga next season.
Rangers should not face a similar situation with McCrorie. He was handed a new deal at Ibrox back in December 2017 which currently keeps him in Glasgow until 2022.
Having his future secured for such a period allows Rangers to negotiate a potential extension and pay-rise, which would be earned after his excellent recent form.
It certainly means they will avoid losing him for nothing like they did with Bates.
