Sebastien Haller could be a blessing in disguise for West Ham this weekend

West Ham United might have to use Sebastien Haller this weekend when they take on Liverpool. But that could prove a blessing in disguise.

Michail Antonio may well miss West Ham United’s meeting with Liverpool this weekend. , the 30-year-old is an injury doubt after going off against Manchester City.

Antonio has been in very good form this season. He’s got three goals already, with decisive strikes against both Arsenal and Manchester City. West Ham, then, will want him fit for Anfield.

If he doesn’t make it, then Sebastien Haller could well take his place. hasn’t been the start striker West Ham hoped for when they broke their transfer record for him. But he could be a bit of a blessing in disguise.

Weaknesses

Liverpool’s defence is shaky at the moment. How could it not be? Virgil van Dijk is out for the season and Joel Matip can’t stay fit. It leaves 23-year-old Joe Gomez as the only senior centre-half, with Fabinho deputising in the position.

That is something West Ham can get at – particularly with Haller. As good as Fabinho has been, no one has truly tested him in the air. Similarly, no one knows how well Gomez fares as the main ariel defender.

That’s usually a role for Van Dijk, of course. But without him, Liverpool appear quite weak in the air. That’s Haller’s strength, however, both in presence and his ability to attack the ball.

The Frenchman has only played 50 minutes in the Premier League this season but has won six ariel duels (per Whoscored). He’s a real threat, then, and Haller could be a way to get at Liverpool this weekend.
