Sebastien Haller comments on international ambitions after strong West Ham start
Sebastien Haller has been discussing his hopes of breaking into the squad of world champions France after making his big summer move to West Ham.
Haller knows he needs to improve his output to make it into Didier Deschamps’ plans, and his club manager Manuel Pellegrini expects exactly that.
Haller : “I would like to play for France. It is not possible for the moment. I think it is about profile. I need to get my statistics up and score goals. I did it in Holland. I did it in Germany. Now I want to do it in England. Just to prove to myself and show I can be effective.”
Meanwhile, Pellegrini : “I think that Sebastien will improve a lot. It is not easy to know the Premier League. He needs some time to adapt to Premier League defenders.”
TBR’s View – Haller should fancy chances of proving better bet than Giroud by Euro 2020
France have an elite squad but Olivier Giroud led the line for them at the World Cup and he is now firmly a backup option at Chelsea under Frank Lampard.
The likes of Moussa Dembele are coming through, but Haller can prove himself to be a better bet than Giroud if he gets between ten and 15 Premier League goals this season while the former Arsenal man toils at Stamford Bridge.
Striker is perhaps the one position that remains wide open under Deschamps, which means that Haller does have a fair chance of gatecrashing the summer party.
