Seamus Coleman’s continued struggles offer hope for Everton loanee Jonjoe Kenny

Everton defender Seamus Coleman’s sloppy start to the season continued during the international break.

With Coleman desperately out of form and getting older, Everton need to consider the long-term future. This could open a door for Jonjoe Kenny next season and here’s why.

Coleman and Everton have both had disastrous starts to the season. The Irishman’s slack defending has proven costly with Everton now in the bottom three of the Premier League.

Just before the international break, Coleman received a red card against Burnley in a game Everton went on to lose 1-0. Then, in a crucial qualifier against Switzerland, Coleman was sent off again to highlight his ongoing struggle for form.

Kenny hits form

While Coleman struggles in Merseyside, Kenny is thriving in the Bundesliga. The 22-year-old is out on loan at Schalke and he is already a hit with the German club’s fans.

With eight games, one goal and two assists to his name this season, Kenny is proving his worth. Marco Silva will be wondering why he sent Kenny out on loan if he continues to shine for Schalke.

Kenny might not be an Everton player this year but he is preparing well for next season. The local lad will want to prove himself at Everton and Bundesliga minutes will help his case.

If Kenny can continue to impress for Schalke throughout the season, there is no reason why he should not be a starter next season. Kenny can prove that he is the long-term option for Everton as Coleman continues to decline.
