Scott Sinclair’s snub for Celtic will be a kick in the teeth

Chris Sutton it was “pretty damning” that Scott Sinclair was left out of the Celtic starting XI on Thursday night and he’s hit the nail on the head.

The Bhoys slipped to a 2-0 away defeat against RB Leipzig in the Europa League group stages and will need to pick themselves up quickly for the Scottish League Cup semi-final with Hearts at the weekend.

Manager Brendan Rodgers was without some influential figures in the European fixture with Leipzig, which saw him hand starts to fringe players Ryan Christie and Lewis Morgan.

But remarkably Celtic had the experience of Sinclair left on the bench and he was only used as a second-half substitute.

The 29-year-old has fallen a long way down the pecking order this campaign at Parkhead and Thursday’s selection highlighted how out of favour he is with Rodgers.

Sinclair has been a key figure for the Scottish giants since he joined in 2016 and played a major role in the double-treble success, but it’s gone downhill dramatically for him in the past few months.

The English left-winger still has excellent pace and trickery, but is struggling for game-time right now.

It must have been a major kick in the teeth for the wide man to be omitted for the European clash when he saw the team-sheet and it’s going to take something remarkable to get his season back on track now.
