Scott Sinclair Moves From Aston Villa To Celtic – Twitter Reacts

Scott Sinclair is on the verge of reuniting with old boss Brendan Rodgers, with the Aston Villa forward completing his £4.5 million move to Celtic today. Sinclair’s career has stalled slightly after a fruitful spell at Swansea, with a move to Manchester City offering limited first-team opportunities and his time at Villa Park ending in relegation to the Championship.

He will offer the Hoops pace, trickery and an eye for goal and Rodgers has a good track record at eeking out the most from nimble, mobile forwards.

This move has been in the offing for some time. In his inimitable style, Brendan Rodgers said: “There’s no smoke without fire and there’s been a lot of smoke.” Sinclair, along with most of his Aston Villa team-mates, struggled to make much of an impression last season with just two goals in 19 league starts. However, further back in his history is evidence that Sinclair can be a habitual goalscorer; he scored 22 in Swansea City’s 2010-11 promotion that got the Swans into the Premier League for the first time. Under the guidance of Rodgers, Sinclair starred and scored a hat-trick in Swansea’s 4-2 win against Reading in the play-off final.

Rodgers also worked with Sinclair in his days as a youth team coach at Chelsea (during a loan spell at Plymouth Argyle, ). Rodgers will be hoping Sinclair can rediscover his goal-scoring touch, as Celtic seek to fend off Rangers and Aberdeen to win another SPL title and guide them into the Champions League group stages. Celtic face Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the Champions League play-off later this month.

Despite the hard times of recent years, Sinclair has scored goals in the Championship so this is something of a loss for a Villa side that has lacked goals, particularly at Villa Park. The Villains have brought in Ross McCormack, but Villa supporters will still be anxious to see Roberto Di Matteo add more firepower before the start of the season.
