Scott Parker talks Leeds star Leif Davis, and his tricky start to Bournemouth loan

Leif Davis has endured a tricky start to life on loan at Bournemouth – but Scott Parker has defended the Leeds ace

Davis, 21, decided to go on loan in the summer after promotion to the Premier League had all-but-ended his chances of senior game time.

The signing of Junior Firpo proved to be the deciding factor. Bournemouth chanced their arm on Davis, bringing him to the club on a season-long loan.

But since joining the club in August, Davis has since managed just four Championship games for the Cherries – under ex-England man Parker.

A couple of injuries have hampered the progress of the left-back, and he now finds himself warming the bench. But Parker defender Davis.

“It’s tough for Leif at the moment. It’s been a little bit stop-start. He came to us injured,” There’s no hiding behind the truth.

“The truth is, at the moment, there’s a boy in front of Leif in his position, doing extremely well. Sometimes you’ve just got to sit there a little bit.”

Parker on Davis: Chances of a Leeds future slipping away?

It is starting to look that way for Davis. The defender really needed to have a near-perfect season to break back into the Leeds side next season.

He could still go on to be brilliant for the rest of the campaign. But Davis has lost his place in the side and it will take an injury to win it back.

With his Leeds contract expiring in the summer of 2023, he does not have all the time in the world left. There is scope to be Firpo’s back-up.

But right now, he is miles away from it. He needs to be playing regularly, week in week out, and impressing. Right now, he could be sold.
