Scott McTominay says three Manchester United players were ‘world class’ vs Chelsea last night

Scott McTominay has named three Manchester United players he felt were world-class in their win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.

McTominay was speaking to after the Scotland international scored twice to hand Erik ten Hag’s side a much-needed boost after a tough few days at Old Trafford.

Manchester United were soundly beaten at the weekend, despite the narrow scoreline. Against Chelsea however, they were largely dominant.

Bruno Fernandes saw a penalty saved in the first-half. And United missed a number of chances throughout the contest. Thankfully for the home side, Scott McTominay was there to be their hero once again, scoring in either half to secure the three points.

However, McTominay was impressed by a number of his teammates’ performances on the night, as he picked out those who he thought really stepped up.

“I’m delighted to score two but I felt like all the boys, Antony, Bruno, Harry Maguire – I could name a list of players who were world class tonight but we have to show that consistently which has not been the case of late,” he told .

Step in the right direction for Erik ten Hag

Obviously, United fans will not be getting carried away. They have won four and lost four of their last nine in all competitions. But it is definitely a step in the right direction.

And actually, they now find themselves just three points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table. So it is certainly not all doom and gloom.

And the form of McTominay has definitely been a real positive for the side this season. He has five goals in the top-flight, and he has produced some big performances.

It does appear some of those around him are really improving. Antony has looked a light brighter lately. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire’s turnaround does deserve a lot of credit.

With Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Aston Villa to come before the end of the month, the coming weeks should certainly provide a better indication of where exactly ten Hag’s men are.
