Schalke defender Malick Thiaw comments on reports of Liverpool interest
Young Schalke defender Malick Thiaw has suggested he was flattered by rumours of a possible move to Liverpool.
The centre-half was recently linked with a move to Anfield, following the injury sustained by Virgil van Dijk which has ruled him out of action for the foreseeable.
Apparently Liverpool scouts have been in regular contact with their scouts about Thiaw and his development (), with interest even going back to last year.

The 19-year-old has been making a name for himself over in the Bundesliga since being handed his first-team debut earlier this year.
Thiaw’s style has seen him be likened to former Schalke player and current Reds star Joel Matip.
Liverpool’s supposed interested has been put to the player, (): “Of course you’re happy when big clubs are after you, but it was actually clear to me that I would stay at Schalke.”
The Reds have also been linked with a move for Thiaw’s Schalke teammate Ozan Kabak, and with Joe Gomez joining van Dijk in the treatment room, one wonders if one of the two players will be targeted in January.
TBR’s View – Thiaw would be a risk
Thiaw has only just come onto the scene and is surely a risk Liverpool shouldn’t be taking.

He may have a big future ahead of him, but he’s still only 19 and has made just seven first-team appearances to date.
Schalke have produced some brilliant players over the years and there’s probably a reasonable chance Thiaw will turn out to be another top talent.
But right now, Liverpool need someone with a bit more experience, especially if they are going to retain the Premier League title.
