Schalke chief confirms AC Milan interest in Liverpool-linked Ozan Kabak

Schalke sporting director, Jochen Schneider, has confirmed that Liverpool-linked defender Ozan Kabak was wanted by AC Milan in the summer transfer window.

Kabak has been touted as a potential Liverpool signing, especially following the near season-ending injury to Virgil van Djk. Indeed, just last month that the Reds were eyeing up a potential £20m deal.

It was also widely accepted in the summer that Kabak was being watched by some of Europe’s other giants. And Schneider, speaking to , has confirmed that AC Milan came knocking at the last minute.

“Milan knocked at the very end of the transfer period in the summer, which was out of the question for us.

“Ozan is simply a great player, he was one of the few bright spots even after the restart in May. Now he will help us to become even more stable defensively and, with his strength at set-pieces, also more dangerous offensively.”

Schneider’s confirmation of interest from Milan suggests that things won’t end there for Kabak. The January window is just under two months away, and the Turkish defender could well be hot property again.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will pursue their interest in the powerful defender. However, if they do, it seems they will have to battle the Rossineri if they do wish to land the international.

If the £20m figure is correct then surely this is a deal Liverpool need to be looking into? Nat Phillips has stepped in of late while Joel Matip is on his way back, but none of those players are at the level of Van Dijk, or Kabak for that matter.

You get the feeling this is one the Reds will regret if Milan do end up landing the Schalke star.
